Health Hazards Control Unit
The Health Hazards Control Unit consists of industrial hygiene professionals providing the following services:
- Providing information to the general public on the health effects that may result from exposure to asbestos and lead-based paint.
- Accrediting individuals conducting asbestos management activities in North Carolina and issuing permits for asbestos abatement projects.
- Accrediting training providers and courses that provide training for asbestos accreditations and lead certifications.
- Certifying individuals and firms conducting lead-based paint management activities and issuing permits for lead abatement projects.
- Certifying individuals and firms conducting lead-based paint renovation activities.
- Inspecting asbestos, lead-based paint abatement and renovation projects to assure that they are conducted using proper work practices and controls.
- Providing consultative services on lead-based paint and asbestos related issues to homeowners, businesses, schools and policy makers.
- Conducting educational seminars and on-site presentations upon request. HHCU educational seminars and presentations promote awareness of the potential hazards of asbestos and lead-based paint and the requirements of North Carolina's asbestos and lead-based paint rules, regulations, and procedures.
