Cervicitis
Cervicitis is the inflammation of the cervix (the opening of a woman's uterus, or womb). Cervicitis can be caused by both infectious and non-infectious etiologies. Some infectious causes include chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and Mycoplasma genitalium.
Women with cervicitis may or may not experience symptoms. Because cervicitis might be a sign of upper-genital-tract infection (endometritis), women who seek medical treatment for cervicitis should be checked for signs of PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) in addition to being tested for sexually transmitted infections (STI) to determine the appropriate treatment.
Management of sexual partners treated for cervicitis should be appropriate for the identified or suspected STI to prevent reinfection.
