Chancroid
Chancroid is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria Haemophilus ducreyi. Chancroid usually presents as a combination of a painful genital ulcer and tender suppurative inguinal adenopathy.
Chancroid, like other ulcerative STDs such as genital herpes and syphilis, is a risk factor in the transmission of HIV infection.
Chancroid can be treated effectively with antibiotics. Successful treatment cures the infection, resolves the symptoms, and prevents transmission to others.
