The mosquito-borne illnesses most often found in North Carolina are West Nile virus (in humans and horses), eastern equine encephalitis (in humans and horses) and La Crosse encephalitis. No cases of dengue fever or malaria have been determined to have been acquired in North Carolina; all cases of dengue and malaria reported in North Carolina have been associated with international travel.
