Quarterly Reports
The quarterly North Carolina HIV/STD Surveillance Report contains the most recent case statistics about syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV infection (including AIDS) for each quarter in the current year. It contains statewide summaries of reports with breakdowns by sex, age group, and race/ethnicity. It also contains summaries of reports for each county. Quarters are based on the calendar year (Quarter 1: January-March; Quarter 2: April – June; Quarter 3: July-September; and Quarter 4: October – December).
Note: Starting in Quarter 2 2016, this report has changed from counting the number of case reports to counting the number of diagnosed cases based on cleaned, finalized data. Because the surveillance data cleaning process takes time, quarterly reports underestimate true case numbers. For syphilis and HIV, we estimate that true case numbers are approximately 10% higher than this report. Because of staffing gaps this year and the higher number of case reports, we estimate that true case numbers for chlamydia and gonorrhea are 20-30% higher than this report. All previous Quarterly Reports were by date of report . Please use the data accordingly.
*Due to data system changeovers for the North Carolina HIV/STD surveillance program, some individual quarterly reports may be missing. Please consult later quarterly reports or annual surveillance reports for summary data.
