Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (SHAAD) is observed annually on August 20. The Southern AIDS Coalition launched this day to bring awareness to the disproportionate impact of HIV in the South.

Get Involved

You can raise awareness of HIV, address stigma and other barriers that prevent access to care, and encourage people living in the South to get tested and know their status using Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign resources.

Let’s Stop HIV Together aims to empower communities, partners, and healthcare providers to promote testingprevention, and treatment, and reduce HIV stigma. With campaign resources, you can play a role in preventing HIV and helping people with HIV stay healthy. The Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign is part of the national Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. initiative.

Promoting SHAAD to Get the Word Out

Share some of the sample social media messages below to spark conversations about HIV and highlight progress being made in the South to reduce HIV among all populations. Use the following hashtags: #SHAAD and #StopHIVTogether leading up to SHAAD and on the day of the observance, August 20.

Follow and tag @NCDHHS on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
